Playing with Fire

The horrible effects of drugs and driving that may make you rethink whether it is really worth the risk.

On May 17, 2011, a young male and his girlfriend are celebrating their two years of being together by having "a little fun". The 19-year-old male and 18-year-old female decide to try a street drug a friend had given them a few weeks past.

Not thinking far into the night, they drive to an old mill approximately thirty minutes away from the males house to inject this drug so there would be no way he could get caught by his parents. What once seemed like a great idea quickly turned around for the worst.

After using up all the drugs they had, the couple decided out of a lucid mind that it was appropriate to now make their journey home. Even after knowing they were not capable of driving, they kept going as they thought they were invincible.

Ten minutes from the house, something appeared to be on the road so they attempted to swerve around it but did not see the approaching street light. Hitting the light, sparks flew and the car quickly went up in flames. The couple was not conscious and had both burned to death by the time paramedics were able to reach the scene. Later investigations showed it was a brown paper bag that had rolled onto the road from the wind.

Two very happy families got their hearts broken that night and were never able to fully recover. It was because of the drugs they took that caused this accident which would have been extremely preventable under the proper driving circumstances. Statistics Canada show that it is the leading criminal cause of death and injury with drug-impaired driving on the rise (Source ). "Please cherish the times you have with your children and make sure they know the consequences of bad decisions so you don't have to go through what I have been." said the mother of the daughter that had passed away.
